“Seasick”….

It’s been 4 months and change since my last relaxer. Realistically, because I texlax, the last relaxer wasn’t really all that relaxed. I’m enjoying the waves and how they feel but am anxious to see my progress. Lately, I have been cowashing and rollersetting. I still keep up with my deep conditioning and I am thoroughly enjoying going to the salon once a month for a blowout. I think my hair would be great natural but I love the versatility of relaxed/texlaxed hair. I don’t want it bone straight but I want to keep my styling options open.

The last time I checked my length, I was somewhere between 17 and 18 inches. After this long stretch, I am hoping to see 20 inches, that will mean 2 more inches to bsl! With all this new growth, its hard to say where my hair will end up. I am staying optimistic. I get discouraged from time to time but have found that it helps me to look at old hair pictures from 2 years ago, when I first started down this path. I’ve had so many ups and downs but I am truly pleased with my progress thus far and plan to continue. Looking at my progress pictures is therapeutic and it completely opened my eyes. I plan to stretch this relaxer until May….That could change like the wind because at this point, I am indeed fickle… :-)

To Relax or NOT to Relax……that is the question

Ok, so here I am 16 weeks into a relaxer stretch. I washed my hair yesterday and realized that my hair is shedding more than it was at 10 weeks. I wanted to stretch to 25 weeks……however………I don’t know if I can make it. My texture is nice but having two completely different textures is a little tiring. Besides, I really am bored with most of the self-style options I have.

My 9 year old son is working on Pros/Cons lists at school and it occurred to me that a list would be a good way to decide if I should break down and relax so….here we go….

CONS: could miss out on growth, relaxing takes a lot of time, too lazy to bother, $$$, miss out on doing other things planned for the weekend, no cowashing the rest of the week

PROS: can do a length check, hair would look nice for upcoming anniversary, more styling options, bye bye to the fro……

After much deliberation, I am going to continue to stretch. I’m a little too anxious so to hold me over, I am going to have to pay a visit to the Dominican salon for a roller set and blow out. That way, I can maintain a sleek style through out the week and not have to cowash as often. I’ll more than likely need to go back a couple of more times over the remaining 9 weeks of my stretch.
