Picture Thief -Remixed….

Posted in African American Hair, Grow Hair, Hair Pictures, black hair on April 15, 2009 by Mrs. Raines

Ok, so you know how the pic thief in my last article stole my pic and put it up on Craigslist?? I made a vid about it on youtube and miraculously, the pic was flagged on Craigslist for removal..They took it down!! Yaaaaay, right?? WRONG…these people had the nerve to do this again..The very next day, they put up a new ad on Craigslist with the same picture. How do I know, you ask? Because I got on Craigslist to review and many of my fellow youtubers are watching as well. I had to call the owner of the salon to ”firmly” request removal of my picture. I mean, why would you even put it up there and risk somebody walking in your shop and calling you out? Or worse yet, risk Mrs Raines flying to ATL to check you in front off ya peeps along with an attorney and suit filed against you?? On top of that, you risk losing everything you worked so hard for (ie getting your little business off the ground, going to school day after day to learn the trade of hair styling)..I mean, is it really worth it?

My suggestion would be for little missy to find a client with jacked up hair and do before and after shots..I mean, with the clients approval and signed waiver of course.

The moral of today’s story?? Thou shalt not steal! Liars and thieves do not prosper! EVER!

Sad Shame!!!!! Picture thief!!!

Posted in African American Hair, Hair Pictures, black hair with tags , on April 6, 2009 by Mrs. Raines

I am sad to say that one of my subbies from Youtube saw my picture on Craiglist-Atlanta. I can’t believe people are that shady that they would pass my picture off as theirs. Anyway, I wanted to alert all of my friends that follow my blog and my friends that sub me on youtube. I have not been to the salon using my picture and I have already contacted Craiglist to pull the pic down. Anyway, here is the ad:

If you guys no anyone who goes to that salon or anyone affiliated with that salon, please let them know the hunt is on!! I refuse to be messed with!!

Roller 101!!!

Posted in African American Hair, Grow Hair, Tools, black hair, hair style on March 11, 2009 by Mrs. Raines

When I first began roller setting my hair, I bought one set of rollers at a time. This resulted in me spending way too much cash! I decided to to a quick roller setting info vid. I hope you enjoy.

Some pointers to remember:

1. buy rollers in a set-you spend less and get much more…

2. make sure to purchase the right type of clips- you prevent wavy roots and have a smoother set

3. don’t weigh your hair down-heavy products or use of too many different products can weigh down your set and leave the hair feeling coated

4. make sure your hair is wet when you roll, hair should be saturated with water and/or setting lotion for a smooth set.

5.  be confident when you roll your hair…if not, your set will show that you were timid or shy about your technique-remember, the only one who was perfect and knew no sin was called up to heaven to be with our Father so…therefore..you will make mistakes, its not the end of the world!

6. keep practicing…don’t give up after your first two sets…keep trying and soon you’ll be a pro

7. take pictures…this is the best way to see what mistakes you’ve made and how to correct them

Happy setting!!!

Dominican Blowout @ home!!!

Posted in African American Hair, Grow Hair, Hair Pictures, black hair, hair style on December 31, 2008 by Mrs. Raines

That’s right…I did my own set at home! I have been trying to get the right mix of products and now I finally have it!  As  you may already know, I was using my Conair hot brush…well my hubby upgraded me for Christmas and my set came out much better. I also realized using a foam set lotion, wet set lotion and then Chi silk infusion gave the set the shine, bounce and control I needed. My doobie wasn’t perfect but it did the trick and my roots came out nice and smooth!

My hair regimen…revamped..

Posted in African American Hair, Grow Hair, Products, black hair on December 20, 2008 by Mrs. Raines

Ok so I updated my hair regimen to include and changed a few things. It’s necessary to add that I still stand by all the products I use but I just want a different mix of things that really work for my hair. So many people recommend using specail oils or homemade concoctions and there is nothing wrong with that. However, personally, I prefer finding products already on the market that work with my busy lifestyle. I thank God that all my hair hasn’t fallen out as a result of my product hunting. So…that being said….here we go…

My current regimen:

1. Moisturize two to three times a week with S2S moisturizer or Keracare conditioning creme headdress. I also use VO5 moisturizing spray and periodically NTM Triple moisture and seal with S2S oil or EVOO
2. Twice a week baggy moisturized ends
3. Wash once weekly and deep condition with S2S deep conditioner  or Keracare humecto conditioner with plastic bag under hooded dryer or conditioning cap for 20-25 minutes, if I don’t feel like being tied down to the dryer or cap, I go outside with my boys and the hot sun works like a charm. I also will use a turban that has been heated with hot water.
4. I wash with a clarifying shampoo once a month and do a scalp oil treatment when needed..typically once every two months.
5. I rarely prepoo any more but if I do, I mix whatever is under my sink. Co-washes are still with Suave Humectant condish. I don’t co-wash often because I am not trying to over manipulate my hair.

6. Relax with Soft N Beautiful (reg) every 10-12 weeks depending on new growth and how well I can manage to stretch…This is still about the same but I have recently tried the Soft N Beautiful Botanical relaxer for sensitive scalp. It worked well and I found that I can leave that on for even less time then the normal relaxer in order to texlax.
7. Scalp massage from hubby whenever he is willing

8. I roller-set my hair after a wash or I roller-wrap for body and fullness. I use Keracare wrap set foam or Diluted Lottabody in order to set my hair. I also use the CHI silk infusion when I set my hair to give my hair some shine as well as the CHI thermal heat protectant if I need to use my hot rollers or flat irons.  I have also been using the Keracare oil sheen with humidity blocker (love it).

9. Heat…..OK this is a big deal with most women of color. I sit under the hooded dryer weekly and that pretty much works for me, however I flat iron maybe once or twice a month to flatten my roots during a relaxer stretch. I also use a clampless iron to create beachy waves when I am going someplace special which is about once per month.

The beauty of a hair regimen is that you can tweak and change it as necessary, its not set in stone. I really respect the ladies that have the time to come up with their own mixes for moisturizing or sealing or washing but I prefer to leave it to the professionals and use what works for me!

M.A.C. 911 HELP!!!

Posted in Products with tags , on December 2, 2008 by Mrs. Raines

If you use MAC products then this is a must-read for you. I currently use Studio Fluid foundation in NC 45. I have an appointment at my local MAC on Saturday and need to know what to pick up. I’d like to pick up a powder and a concealer and maybe a lipstick. My MAC funds are limited with it being the holidays but I have been needing a concealer and powder for a while because I get sick of always wearing fluid. Also, if anyone has used the mineralize, let me know if it works well and if I should get the mineralize duo. Your comments are needed! Please help!!

Coming SOON!!

Posted in Haul, Personal, Product Review, Products, Tools on November 30, 2008 by Mrs. Raines

I just ordered some ELF products. I ordered makeup as well as some brushes. ELF came out with an entire “studio” line of brushes and I can’t wait to try them. I only ordered a few but if those work well, I will be ordering more. I have tried some ELF products and like what I have tried so far. The best part about this  makeup is that its really inexpensive. I will be doing a HAUL video and blog when I receive it. In other news,  my hubby got me an early Christmas gift!! I am thrilled with this Pink Train Casepurchase. I got my first train case! Its a pink train case from Caboodle. I rememember getting a cutesy little pink and purple Caboodle case when I was about 13. It was just big enough for my lip gloss and a few pairs of earrings. Let me tell you….they have grown up cases so my case isn’t little girlish at all. There are several compartments and all my makeup fits in there nicely. I don’t anticipate growing out of that train case for a long time. I do have future plans to try to put my shadows and lip glosses in palettes for easy access and better storage. There are lots of vids on Youtube.com showing ways to make homemade palettes so I can’t wait to try it!

My Makeup Attitude!!! Recent Mini-Haul

Posted in Haul, Personal, Product Review, makeup with tags , , , , , on October 25, 2008 by Mrs. Raines

Ok, time to take a quick break from my hair rants…I am loving makeup now…The closer I get to age 30, the more I am loving the coverage I get from my makeup bag….So I decided to share the newest things in my makeup bag…Kind of a mini haul…I picked up a few Covergirl eyeshadow quads and a few from Maybeline, I picked up one that mimics Mac Sea/Sky. I also have one with pinks and browns. I got these on sale at Target. (I always check the makeup end caps at Target for deals…) I also finally picked up cream eyeliner from the Loreal HIP collection, I love it!!! I have been going back and forth about HIP duos and finally picked up the “shady” duo. I am unimpressed! The lighter shade has barely any pigment at all, for that price I am much better off getting the lower end shadows. Wet N Wild is super cheap but does the job considering I only really get to experiment with color on the weekends. Selling point for Maybeline: The expertwear quads tell you where each color is supposed to go (lid, crease, browbone, outer eye) so all you have to do is blend! I may try HIP duos again but none of the earthy colors. I am also debating picking up Urban Decay Primer Potion…..To Be Continued…..
